Myrtos beach
First of all, you cannot miss out on Myrtos beach! Myrtos beach in Kefalonia is one of the most beautiful beaches in Greece, and it's no surprise why. Rated as one of the five best beaches in the country, it's the most visited beach on the island of Kefalonia. From above, it appears to be a sandy beach, but once you step onto the beach, you'll see that it's actually made up of small, white stones. You will see that the blue colors of the water are mind-blowing! While you can rent sunbeds and parasols on the beach, a large part of it is also free, allowing you to bring your own towel and parasol. Myrtos beach is easily reachable by car or scooter, although the last kilometer consists of very sharp turns. Despite the challenging drive, the stunning views and crystal-clear waters make it well worth the effort. It's no wonder why Myrtos beach is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Kefalonia.
Melissani and Drogarati cave
A visit to the Melissani cave, also known as the cave of the nymphs, is a must-do experience for anyone traveling to Kefalonia. The entrance fee is only 7 euros for adults, and 4 euros for children, and there's even a student deal for around 4 or 5 euros. Visitors have the opportunity to enter a rowing boat and sail across the lake with a local guide. You'll pass by stalactites from 16,000 to 20,000 years old and have plenty of opportunities to take beautiful pictures. The opening times are between 9.00 and 18.00, but the best time to visit is between 12.00 and 15.00 when the sun is at its highest point above the opening in the roof of the lake, creating a stunning play of colors on the water and the walls of the cave. The crystal-clear waters and stunning combination of blue and green colors make this a breathtaking experience.
For those looking to combine their visit with another cave, the Drogarati cave is only 6km away from the Melissani cave, making it the perfect addition to your itinerary. This cave is located at a depth of 95 meters, and visitors need to walk down several stairs to reach it. Because of its depth, the temperature is a cool 18 degrees Celsius. Entrance costs only 5 euros for adults and 3 euros for children, with a student discount also available. The stunning stalactites and stalagmites create a unique atmosphere that is well worth exploring. With both caves being easily accessible and affordable, combining a visit to the Melissani and Drogarati caves is a great way to experience the natural wonders of Kefalonia.
